DynaVibe Classic
"The Affordable Dynamic Prop Balancer"

The DynaVibe Classic is an economical, state-of-the-art dynamic propeller balancer designed specifically for the aircraft industry. The DynaVibe Classic displays the magnitude and phase of propeller vibration allowing precise weight adjustments for balanced and smooth engine operation.

Attention: DynaVibe Products may not be cancelled or returned.
  • Economical - including:
    • Dynamic Balancer
    • Accelerometer with 30 ft cable
    • Optical Pickup and Reflective Tape
    • Carrying Case
    • No hidden costs or additional items to buy!
  • Accurate - Reports RPM, Vibration Magnitude, Vibration Phase Angle
  • Results - Reduce vibration levels to reduce wear on engine components and instruments. Enjoy a smooth flight!
Why balance?
A properly balanced engine installation offers a number of advantages over unbalanced equipment. The most significant advantage is in the longevity of components associated with the power plant. In many cases high vibration levels have lead to premature failure of critical engine components. Engine accessories, engine mounts, firewalls, and instruments are also susceptible to vibration damage and premature failure.

Standard VS Rotorcraft Version:

The rotorcraft version is the same as the aircraft version with additional features:
  • The rotorcraft version includes an extra accelerometer to reduce accelerometer position movements between flights.
  • The rotorcraft version includes push-to-talk switch activation of the averaging button, to allow your hands to remain on the controls.
  • Note: The rotorcraft version also works on propellers

NIST Option NIST is the National Institute of Standards and Technology: an agency in the Technology Administration that makes measurements and sets standards as needed. The NIST traceable option is available for those that are working on certified aircraft.

Important Info
  • The helicopter version will also work for fixed-wing aircraft.
  • There are no physical differences between NIST and non-NIST. The only difference is that the NIST unit comes with a certificate of calibration showing that it has been compared to a NIST standard device.
  • One year full warranty
  • NIST calibration is required annually for certified aircraft/rotorcraft.

DYNAVIBE PROP BAL - AIRCRAFT

March 10, 2023

The difference is huge after balancing. It took me about 3 hours to fabricate a hinge, but after that it was very straightforward. I chose to buy the machine instead of balancing in the shop so I could work on my future projects

After I figured the best way to set until up with supplied manual and net search I was able to get readings easily. My prop was so far out of balance I sent it out. Can’t wait to check prop balance after I get it back. Company was very helpful and personal.

Starting with .34 ips and quickly working down to .02 ips not only did the engine run smoothly, My indicated airspeed went from 103 -105 knots ups to 109-113 knots. Well worth the money that you will save on maintenance, fuel and time.

Very easy to use. brought my vibration down from 0.95 IPS to 0.02 IPS with just some additional washers under back side of prop bolts. Does require a very solid mounting to fit engine.

Q: Can the DynaVibe be used on geared prop installations?

Yes. It actually works very well on geared assemblies since the geared drive puts the engine vibration frequency at a different frequency than the prop vibration frequency. This makes it easier to isolate just the prop vibration.

Q: Will the DynaVibe work on a 3 blade prop?

Yes. The number of blades on the prop is irrelevant in the balancing process.

Q: Can the DynaVibe be used on rotorcraft?

Sure! The rotorcraft version of the DynaVibe Balancer includes an additional accelerometer and remote averaging button. Note that we're not rotorcraft experts so we can not offer technical support for tracking and balancing a rotorcraft other than how to operate the DynaVibe itself.

Q: Can the DynaVibe be used with turboprop and radial engines?

Yes. Everything focuses on the prop assembly. It doesn't matter how the prop is driven. We have many customers using the DynaVibe on turboprop aircraft. Regarding radial engines, the orientation of the cylinders is cause for concern since vibrations from combustion are in the same direction as the prop vibration. However, we've had several customers use the DynaVibe on aircraft with radial engines and it worked well.

Q: How do I mount the accelerometer and optical pickup?

Due to the variety of engines, we're not able to supply mounts to fit every configuration. You will need to build a fixture to bolt the accelerometer and optical pickup to the engine. Typically, the mount is bolted using one of the case bolts. The accelerometer is mounted on the bracket in the vertical direction, and the optical pickup is pointed toward the prop, near the hub.

Q: Can the DynaVibe be configured to read where to add weight instead of where to remove weight?

Yes. Simply mount the accelerometer upside down (with the cable pointing toward the hub).

Q: How can I practice using the DynaVibe?

It is very helpful to practice by balancing a box fan. You can drill small holes and attach small (i.e. #6-#10) bolts to the fan blades to see how the DynaVibe responds.

Q: What RPM should I use to balance?

The best readings can be taken at cruise RPM, or the maximum stable RPM safely sustainable for one minute.

Q: Does the DynaVibe tell you how much weight to add/remove?

The DynaVibe tells you what correction is needed by indicating the vibration magnitude and angle (where weight is needed). You will get an indication of how weight affects the IPS reading after your first measurement, correction, and subsequent reading. For example, if your initial reading is 1.00 IPS and one washer reduces the out of balance to 0.75 IPS then you know that one washer corrects 0.25 IPS. Therefore, it will take an additional 3 washers of that size to balance the prop assembly.

Q: Are the DynaVibe accelerometers fragile?

No. The manufacturer makes their own accelerometers using state-of-the-art sensor technology, not piezo crystals. DynaVibe accelerometers are quite tough and will not be damaged by normal handling or drops. While it is possible to crack or chip the sensor's epoxy housing, we have never had sensor failure due to accelerometer mechanical damage.

Q: What does the angle measurement mean on the DynaVibe reading?

The angle is the location where the prop assembly is too heavy. Either remove weight at this angle (measured from the master blade in the direction of prop rotation), or add weight at the reading angle +/-180 degrees.

Q: What can be causing the DynaVibe reading to fluctuate or give inconsistent results?

•Hold RPM as stable as possible when balancing. It will take several seconds at a stable RPM for the reading to stabilize.
•The engine should be running smoothly from idle to max RPM. Don't try to balance a prop with a rough engine!
•Route all of the DynaVibe wires well away (4" or more if possible) from spark plug wires or other sources of electrical noise.
•Make sure there are no loose components on the engine that can be moving, such as the spinner, magnetos, exhaust pipes, alternator, etc.
•Keep the accelerometer mounting bracket as short and stiff as possible. If the bracket starts to resonate, the magnitude and phase angle will be affected resulting in an incorrect measurement.

Q: Would this product work for a propeller of a Beechcraft 1900D?

Yes, the fixed wing version should work just fine on the Beechcraft 1900D.

Q: Would this product work for a propeller of a Beechcraft 1900D?

Yes, the fixed wing version should work just fine on the Beechcraft 1900D.

Q: You state "No hidden costs or additional items to buy!", but you don't include the brackets that are needed to mount the sensors. Why is this?

Per the manufacturer, due to the wide range of brackets required for various engines and installations, most of our customers prefer to make their own brackets. We do have a kit available for customers that only want to do a few types of engines.

Q: What is the distinction Fixed Wing and rotorcraft?

Fixed wing aircraft is a general aviation airplane, while a rotorcraft is another name for a helicopter.

Q: Does the Dynavibe Prop Balancer include any mounts for the light sensor and accelerometer?

No, this does not include any mounting hardware. Please refer to Part # 05-12625 for this.

Q: The model without the NIST certificate is the same unit as the certificated unit,, sans the certificate?

There are no physical differences between NIST and non-NIST. The only difference is that the NIST unit comes with a certificate of calibration showing that it has been compared to a NIST standard device.

Q: Can the Dynavibe be used on any prop aircraft? For example Dash8?

Yes it this could be used on a aircraft like a Dash 8. The vendor strongly recommends the extension cables when used with an aircraft like that.

Q: Can I use DynaVibe to balance mulching roaters and other rotating objects besides airplane props?

We do not have any experience or data showing this product can be used outside of aircraft applications.

Q: If I purchase the fixed wing unit can I purchase the rotorcraft components at a later date should I need to balance a helicopter.

Yes but in addition to buying the additional components you would need to send your unit in for an update.
