Reviews

Have absolutely loved my A20 headset since I bought it 3 years ago. I recently dropped the unit on concrete and fracture cracked two areas of the headset. I contacted Bose, and they paid for shipping and repair . I had my good as new headset back in my hands in 12 days from me calling. Exceptional service, absolutely an amazing service and product.

I purchased a LEMO plug Bose after purchasing and using a Lightspeed Tango headset for 7 months. Although the Lightspeed offered good ANR performance I had no idea how much better the Bose would be for my airplane with a geared engine. My motivation for purchasing the bose was the Lightspeed is difficult to get the ear cup location just right, it feels bulky. It didnt seem like I could adjust the headset to fit. From a comfort standpoint, the Lightspeed does have a slight edge with the soft ear pads and less clamping force. But I believe the less clamping force reduces the passive noise reduction. The major reason for seeking a different headset is do not like the microphone and side tone of the Lightspeed. Both in transmit and intercom, the lightspeed is not clear and seems to have a delay. Back to the Bose, it is worth every penny and wiring the LEMO jack was straight forward- Im very glad I did it.

I fly in a Skyhawk a lot and have used a DC Pro X for the past two years. The Bose headset is a bit more money, but has at least twice as good noise cancelation and better Bluetooth controls. Both headsets work very well though and I highly recommend buying the best headset you can afford.

Don’t waste your money. After 5 hours of flying, my ears really hurt from the pressure of the cups. And this is the third time I’ve had to replace the foam filled ear cups, as the elastic cloth holding the foam cup to the headset keeps tearing. Bose may be known for high end audio equipment, but they have much to learn about aviation headsets.

Q: Does the Bose A20 lemo version allow ANR to run on batteries if used in a Dual GA airplane? Can you confirm that the version you sell in fact does have AA batteries, and can be used with a dual GA setup just through a dual GA - lemo adapter (passive)?

Yes, the battery box for the Lemo version of the Bose A20 will accept the included AA batteries. This will allow the batteries to power the ANR if the headset is being used in a Dual GA equipped aircraft with passive adapter part # 11-08741. No additional battery box is required.

Q: Can the Bluetooth feature on the Bose A20 headset stream both music and phone calls or is it for phone calls only?

Yes, the Bluetooth feature will stream both music and phone calls to your headset from your device (ie, iPhone, iPad, Android, etc).

Q: What does the six pin lemo plug mean?

Six pin Lemo is the connection plug style. This type of plug is a single connector, and uses aircraft power to activate the ANR. This differs from the more common dual GA plug style, in which there are two male plugs that go into the aircraft jacks and requires AA batteries to run the ANR.

Q: With an A20 headset, LEMO style connector, will all functions, bluetooth etc.work without batteries in the control module? In other words, are the batteries totally unnecessary? If so, should I just keep it empty or will it default to the batteries if they are present? Any reason to use batteries as long as I am using a LEMO receptacle?

The batteries will only be used in the instance that the LEMO connector stops supplying power. The headset will always use ships power if available, and resort to the batteries as a backup. They can also be used if an adapter, Part # 11-08741, is used to use the LEMO Style headset in a airplane equipped with dual GA female jacks.

Q: Regarding Part# 11-13776: How long is the coiled cord and how springy is it? Would be nice not to have to lay the cord around out of the way...

Unstretched the coiled portion is approx 14-75 inches. It can be stretched over 6 feet.

Q: I have the Bose A20 Headset and my aircraft has the GA plug but also has the ANR power plug. Im wondering if there is some adapter that would allow the headset to be run without batterys. LEMO plug to some adapter perhaps?

You would have to change the cable to our part number 11-08734, for it to run off ships power.
